Chicaning Systems (Sanitary)

Chicaning Systems are used to orient mass product flow into a single file.  They utilize a series of plows and speed changes to guide the products. The number and ratio of speed changes and types of plows used are the major variables that are dependent upon the overall application.   Round product can be singulated at up to 500 ppm and square product up to 300 ppm.

Key Features:

This technique works extremely well with round products, but can also work with rectangular / square product as well.  Product will generally leave the system short edge leading, depending upon product ratio and other handling characteristics.  This system does not provide any metering and product could come out of the system with surges of back to back product. Can be used with lots of unpackaged food products that are delicate to handle.  Depending upon the rates system can easily take 15’ - 30’ of length to accomplish single file orientation.

  • Static or power face plows
  • Number of speed changes
  • Belting can be plastic or flexible belt material
  • Can be built to very high sanitary standards
  • Quantity of speed ups and plowing sections is application dependent
