We Are Named A Top Workplace of 2020

We are thrilled to announce that we at NCC Automated Systems have been awarded a Top Workplaces 2020 honor by The Philadelphia Inquirer.

We were nominated by and won based solely on employee feedback gathered through a third-party survey. The anonymous survey uniquely measures 15 drivers of engaged cultures that are critical to the success of any organization: including alignment, execution, and connection, just to name a few. We ranked in the top one-third in scoring, and our overall actively-engaged employee percentage was 79% (across the country, the average across Gallup polling is 34% of employees being actively engaged). This is truly something to celebrate!

When looking at the positive comments employees made in the nomination process, two ideas consistently rose to the top: we love that we are employee owners (NCCAS is an employee-owned brand), and we love the diversity of the projects on which we’re working.

Watch a video about why our employees love being at NCCAS:

Love for the work we do is clear in the nominations and awards we give quarterly for top employees. For instance, those who nominated these winners in 2020 Q1 had heaps of praise to shower on their colleagues:

  • Nicole Tamburino: Nicole has been a driving force in the growth and changes at NCC and is consistent in trying to help everyone else grow along with the company. It is obvious she loves her job and it shows with the amount of effort that she puts into her work. This reflects on all of us in putting the team in a better position to be successful.

  • Mike "Pencil" Ferraro: Over the past year, Pencil has repeatedly demonstrated the “Own It” mentality in everything he has taken on. As Pencil is taking on more responsibility within the company, he continues to rise to the challenge and be an excellent champion from the ideals and core values we preach.

  • Bob Nettleton: For his willingness to help with anything, and his countless hours spent working on important projects if it is his job or not.

Passion for employee ownership and for clients’ automation projects is universal. I live it each day, and I see it in our employees’ work and dedication.  Being named as a Top Workplace is an award that has deep meaning to me. Our employees are truly special, and we couldn’t have achieved everything we have without their leadership and ownership. Seeing how we rate compared to all other companies who participated gives me fulfillment that we have achieved a great level of success for them.

What Makes Us Different: Employee Ownership (ESOP)

It’s no surprise we have incredibly high employee participation and engagement; we can feel it in the air every day. It’s more than the simple realization that employees have that ‘yes, we own this company.’ Employee ownership is the perspective of thinking that our efforts can have a direct impact, both short and long term - that we can make a difference. “There is an environment of ownership here at NCC - when you walk through the office, when you walk through the shop--everybody cares,” says Les Patkos, Director of Applications Engineering. “Everyone is acting like a leader and looking for ways to do their job better and more efficiently. When that happens, it’s just an exciting place to work,” adds Jarrod Overy, Sales Engineer at NCCAS.

What Makes Us Different: Open-Book Management

We’ve created an open, honest and transparent work environment that allows freedom of expression for innovation, challenges, and improvements. We are achieving big things together - and that only happens with the ideas, challenges, and explosion of positive pressure that comes from being transparent about the entire business. As one employee recently put it, “There are no sacred cows here. We’re always invited to challenge the status quo.”

Next Steps

This year, the company continues to be strong. So far, 2020 has been the ultimate test. Our culture has proven how tenacious it is with the resilience it has shown through the COVID-19 pandemic. We show up. We work incredibly hard to serve our community and clients, even with a health war raging outside. We have never been more proud of the company based upon the way we have all reacted during these challenging times. The future is up to us -- and we’re really just getting started.

NCC places an incredibly high value on people. We’re an Employee Owned Company and are actively seeking Employee Owners who value a positive workplace environment and are driven to be the best in their field.

If you like a challenge and are ready to work for a different kind of company while making a positive impact to your team, we want to hear from you.
